Postcard 1950s Chrome Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City Juan O'Gorman

Mexico City, Mexico1954ChromeGood

Mexico City's crown jewel of art and architecture gleams in saturated mid-century color — the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) rises in white marble and Art Nouveau grandeur, its iconic rust-and-green Tiffany-glass dome catching the light against a vivid turquoise sky. A banner stretched across the colonnaded façade advertises a Juan O'Gorman exhibition, pinning this image to the early-to-mid 1950s when the celebrated muralist was at the height of his fame, having just completed the stunning mosaic-clad library at UNAM in 1952. Period automobiles dot the surrounding Alameda, and a modernist office tower rises to the right — a striking contrast of eras that captures Mexico City mid-transformation. Published via Kodachrome process by Editorial P. Schaaruno, this unused chrome card is a vivid time capsule of golden-age Mexican tourism.
