Antique & Vintage Postcards

The Matterhorn ignites in alpine glow — its iconic pyramidal peak flushed rose-gold at sunrise or sunset — as two hikers pause on a rocky mountain path framed by wind-bent pines in this luminous chromolithograph art postcard from the early 1900s. Published by T.S.N. (Theo Stroefer Nürnberg) in their Series 891, this is a fine example of the painterly "Kunstkarte" style that made Swiss and German publishers famous at the turn of the century, transforming mountain scenery into dramatic romantic tableaux worthy of a salon wall. The multilingual back — printed in French, German, Italian, English, Hungarian, Czech, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Spanish, and Russian — signals a card made for a pan-European tourist market at the height of the Belle Époque. Unused, with a small penciled "X" at lower right corner, it retains vivid color and is a handsome collector piece.
