Antique & Vintage Postcards

A monumental staircase ascends in perfect vanishing-point perspective toward the ornate Churrigueresque facade of the Universidad de Guanajuato, its cream-stone battlements and Moorish-arched gallery catching the brilliant high-desert light of this colonial silver-mining city. One of Mexico's oldest universities — founded 1732 as a Jesuit college — the building's theatrical exterior stair has made it an icon of Guanajuato's dramatic hillside streetscape, a city now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unused chrome card was sold through the Restaurant y Miscelánea Casa Valadez, a well-known establishment on Jardín Unión No. 3 that doubled as a souvenir vendor — a delightful period detail placing the card squarely in mid-century tourist commerce. The image is crisp, the geometry of the stairs immaculate.
