Antique & Vintage Postcards

Three performers of the Grupo Azteca Xochiquetzal blaze with color in this vivid 1958 chrome card — their towering feathered headdresses of orange, red, and gold exploding against a bright blue sky like ceremonial fire made visible. Sent from Mexico City in October 1958, the writer — signing as Ruth and what appears to be a companion — tells friends Mr. and Mrs. Frances (in Rochester, New York) of two nights out with people named the Carters, a planned reunion with them in Acapulco the following day, and an enthusiastic endorsement of Mexico City's "great climate, food, [and] atmosphere." The postmark reads Mexico, 8 Oct 1958. The card depicts the Danzantes Aztecas, a troupe dedicated to preserving pre-Cortesian culture, rendered in vivid Vistacolour chrome lithography printed in Mexico.
