Antique & Vintage Postcards

A laden burro stands patient beside a centuries-old stone bridge as the snow-capped volcanic crown of Ixtaccíhuatl — the "White Woman" of Aztec legend — dominates the sky above the Valley of Mexico in this vivid mid-century chrome card. The hand-tinted color palette pushes the turquoise sky to almost surreal intensity, a hallmark of the Ediciones "FEMA" printing house of Mexico City, which produced this card (catalogue no. 176). Ixtaccíhuatl, Mexico's third-highest peak at over 5,200 metres, shares the horizon with its volcanic neighbor Popocatépetl; together they are bound in an enduring indigenous legend of tragic love. The rustic stone bridge and working burro foreground the image with timeless rural Mexico authenticity. This card is unused and unaddressed.
