Postcard 1970s Chrome Camino Real Guadalajara Le Pavillon Mural Covarrubias

Guadalajara, Mexico1972ChromeExcellent

A lush jungle paradise leaps from this vivid chrome-era souvenir card — a reproduction of the sweeping nature mural painted by José Luis for the Cafetería "Le Pavillon" inside the celebrated Hotel Camino Real in Guadalajara, Mexico. The composition bursts with tropical life: a ring-tailed coati draped lazily across a high branch at upper left, a tapir grazing in the golden-lit clearing, and a spotted jaguar prowling the undergrowth at right, all framed by towering ceiba trees and dense palms rendered in rich ochres and emerald greens. The artist brought the wildlife of western Mexico's tropical dry forests into the dining room of one of the city's grandest hotels, turning every meal into an encounter with the natural world. The Camino Real Guadalajara opened in the early 1970s and was operated by Western International Hotels de México — the same group behind flagship properties across Latin America — positioning itself as the finest convention and luxury hotel in the city with 200 rooms and lavishly landscaped grounds. This card served as a bilingual promotional piece, with text in both Spanish and English on the reverse celebrating the hotel's ambitions.
