Antique & Vintage Postcards

Captured in a moody, shadow-rich museum photograph, this chrome-era postcard presents the iconic Chac-Mool — the reclining stone rain deity figure from the Mayan Room of Mexico City's celebrated Museo Nacional de Antropología. The sculpture's flat upturned abdomen (used as a ceremonial offering vessel), distinctive helmet-like headdress, and bent knees are rendered with quiet authority against a dark exhibition backdrop, the stone's pinkish-grey hue glowing warmly under gallery lights. First excavated at Chichén Itzá in the 1870s, Chac-Mool figures became one of the defining symbols of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican art — and this card, produced by Vistacolor/Distribuidora Turística Peninsular Fitzmacolor of Mérida, Yucatán, represents the postcard industry's effort to bring that heritage to mass tourism. The card is unused and unaddressed, in excellent condition, a clean souvenir from Mexico's golden age of archaeological tourism.
