Antique & Vintage Postcards

Blazing against the ink-black Mexico City sky, the colonial grandeur of the Edificios del Departamento Central glows amber-gold while a towering, jewel-toned Christmas decoration — festooned in red, green, and yellow lights — commands the center of the Zócalo in this dazzling night-view Chrome-era card. Nancy and Ronnie mailed this to friends back in Honeye Falls, New York on a Saturday during what was clearly an enchanting holiday visit: "We arrived here Thursday evening at 5:45, toured the pyramids yesterday and Mexico City today. The weather is beautiful. The Christmas decorations here are so much more fabulous than home. We took some pictures. Hope they come out." The 1968 Mexico City Olympics stamp adds a further layer of historical resonance — this card traveled just weeks or months after the Games that shook the world.
