Antique & Vintage Postcards

Captured with the crisp clarity of a real-photo print, this striking museum study shows the Statue of Ti — a Fifth Dynasty Egyptian official whose Saqqara mastaba tomb ranks among the best-preserved of the Old Kingdom — standing proud in the Cairo Museum, his painted linen kilt brilliant white against a body darkened by four millennia; the card is a product of Lehnert & Landrock, the celebrated Cairo studio whose gelatin-silver museum and archaeological postcards became the gold standard of Egyptian ephemera in the 1910s–1930s. Ti was a royal hairdresser and overseer of pyramids under Pharaohs Niuserre and Menkauhor around 2450 BCE — a man of extraordinary bureaucratic power whose tomb reliefs show daily life scenes of fishing, hunting, and farming that Egyptologists still study today. This real-photo card, numbered 713 in the Lehnert & Landrock catalogue, was never mailed, preserving its silver-gelatin surface in excellent condition.
