Antique & Vintage Postcards

Light filters through a stained-glass window at the far end of the nave as the vaulted Gothic interior of the parish church of Umhausen unfolds in perfect perspective — ribbed ceiling vaults painted with cherubic figures overhead, carved wooden pews lining the stone-flagged floor, a suspended crucifix hanging before the ornate high altar in the classic style of a Tyrolean Gothic hall church. Umhausen, the oldest documented settlement in the Ötztal valley of Tyrol (and today perhaps best known as the home of the Ötztal waterfall and Ötzi the Iceman discovery site), preserves in this early real-photo card a record of its beloved Pfarrkirche as it appeared in the interwar era. Published by the Photographischer Kunstverlag A. Stockhammer, Kurort Hall, Tirol with the notation "Echte Photographie" (genuine photograph) and catalogue number 1255, this card is unused and unwritten, in excellent archival condition.
