Postcard 1916 Graz Kaiserfeldgasse Radetzkystrasse Bridge Austria WWI Chrome

Graz, Styria, Austria1916Pre-linenGood

A sweeping aerial view of Graz's Kaiserfeldgasse and Radetzkystrasse captures the Styrian capital at the height of the First World War: the Mur River cuts diagonally below while pedestrians in long dark coats and horse-drawn vehicles cross the iron bridge, the grand Ringstraße-era apartment blocks on the left bank still serene and undiminished despite the war consuming the empire beyond. The hand-colored card, printed by A. Schauer of Graz, is dated 28.II.1919 in the publisher's blind imprint area — or possibly sent 28.II.16 per the stamp period — and is addressed to "Fräulein Mimi Straberger" at Haussdorf No. 142, Deutsch-Osb. (Deutsch Ostberg, Styria). The left-hand message in old cursive script conveys warm personal greetings ("herzliche Grüsse, Grossmutter") from what appears to be a grandmother figure. The stamp box shows a yellowish adhesive remnant with a partial violet cancel — the stamp itself is missing or severely faded, a minor condition note.
