Antique & Vintage Postcards

Brooding above the churning Atlantic, the turreted Villa Belza clings to its sea-cliff at the Côte des Basques in Biarritz — a Gothic-Revival fantasy of towers and stonework that became one of the most photographed villas on the Basque coast, here captured in a moody phototype by the Bordeaux publisher Marcel Delboy. The wide sweep of the Bay of Biscay fades into haze beyond the rocky shore, while the villa's dramatic silhouette dominates the composition: a perfect emblem of the Belle Époque passion for theatrical seaside architecture. This unused card, blank on the reverse, is an early Delboy phototype — a Bordeaux-based publisher known for fine-grain halftone reproduction of southwestern France — and represents the kind of evocative travel souvenir that fueled the Edwardian postcard craze.
