Antique & Vintage Postcards

Framed by a dramatic stone archway, a cobblestoned medieval street opens onto a stately Flemish guild hall draped with a crimson flag — this linen-era gem documents the celebrated Belgian Village attraction at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, "A Century of Progress," one of the most beloved international exhibits of that Depression-era exposition. The back text explains that the houses are "exact reproductions of Sixteenth Century houses seen in Belgium today," complete with cafés, a fish market, a medieval church, and a town hall — an immersive escape into another world for fairgoers who could scarcely afford European travel. The stepped gable façade, arched loggia, and hand-laid cobblestones are rendered in vivid linen polychrome printing by the Arena Photo Post Card Co. of Chicago. Card no. 605 places it within a numbered series issued specifically for the 1933 fair.
