Postcard 1960s Chrome Uchon Morvan Hotel Bernard Cafe France Saone-et-Loire

Uchon, Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy, France1965ChromeExcellent

Dappled summer light filters through a grand oak onto the pale stone façade of the Hôtel Bernard — its simple painted sign and scattering of wooden chairs and benches on a terrace conveying the unhurried charm of a country inn in the Morvan hills — this hand-colored chrome-era card documents a modest but atmospheric establishment in Uchon, a granite-topped village in Saône-et-Loire perched at 684 metres, beloved by walkers exploring the Morvan regional park. The building's orange-tiled roof, shuttered windows, and adjoining annexe are characteristic of Burgundian rural architecture, and the CIM studio imprint in the lower right identifies this as the work of one of France's most prolific mid-century postcard publishers. The back identifies it simply as "Café Bernard" within the "Le Morvan Pittoresque" series, suggesting the establishment wore multiple hats — hotel, café, and local landmark — as was typical in French villages of the era.
