Antique & Vintage Postcards

Sleek mid-century elegance radiates from this chrome-era interior view of the bar at the Hotel Nassauer Hof in Wiesbaden — one of Germany's most celebrated grand hotels, a haunt of heads of state and Hollywood stars since the nineteenth century. Red-cushioned bar stools on gold pedestals ring a sweeping navy-and-brass counter beneath a chandelier, while a curved staircase leads to a mezzanine dining room in the background. What makes this card especially appealing for collectors is the handwritten annotation in English on the reverse: "Hotel we stayed at — Bar where I had a few drinks." A traveler — almost certainly an American or British visitor during the postwar Allied occupation or tourist boom era — paused to remember a convivial evening in one of Europe's finest hotel bars. The card was never postally used; it reads as a personal souvenir or travel journal insert, published by H. F. Lauffer of Frankfurt am Main.
