Cavalry thunders across the cobblestones of Rothenburg ob der Tauber's market square as General Tilly's troops seize the town in 1631 — a pivotal moment of the Thirty Years' War rendered in dramatic brushwork by painter Anton Hoffmann in 1856 and here reproduced as a real-photo postcard bearing a crisp Weimar-era 8-Pfennig green stamp. The card was mailed from Rothenburg and addressed to a recipient in Berlin-Spandau — a Camillo — at Teegelfelder Straße 122, with a personal handwritten message filling the left column. Publisher Alfred Ohmayer of Rothenburg captured this reproduction of the painting, which was housed at the Hotel Eisenhut. The sepia photograph faithfully conveys Hoffmann's energetic composition: pikemen on foot, officers on horseback, and townspeople watching nervously from a grand arcade building.
