Antique & Vintage Postcards

A sweeping bird's-eye panorama stretches across the misty Rhine valley as the whitewashed rooftops and pointed church spire of St. Goar nestle between the deep blue river and the forested Rhenish highlands in this quietly beautiful early-20th-century tinted card. St. Goar, perched on the left bank of the Middle Rhine directly across from the famous Loreley rock, was a beloved stop on Rhine steamer tours — its romantic riverside character captured here with the restrained, atmospheric palette typical of German publisher G. Usinger of nearby St. Goarshausen. The card is unused, its back crisp and blank, printed in the undivided-to-divided back transition era.
