Postcard 1952 Chipinque Mountain Monterrey Mexico Linen Kropp Mailed Texas

Chipinque Mountain / Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico1952LinenGood

Towering above a foreground of vivid green canopy and a pair of low Spanish Colonial-style buildings, the dramatic rust-red peaks of the Sierra Madre Oriental frame Chipinque Mountain near Monterrey in this saturated linen-era card — and on its reverse, a brief, warmhearted message in looping cursive from a traveler named Zelda to her friend Ella in St. Louis captures a precise moment in May 1952: "Had a nice trip — beautiful drive — ready now to cross the border," penned at Laredo, Texas, just before re-entering the United States. The E.C. Kropp Company of Milwaukee was one of America's premier linen postcard publishers, and their Mexico travel series displayed the characteristic hyper-vivid color saturation that made linen cards irresistible souvenirs. Chipinque, at approximately 10,000 feet, offers a panoramic observatory view of Monterrey and access to the Sierra Madre's cloud forest, making it a prized day-trip destination for mid-century American tourists driving the Pan-American Highway corridor. The 2-cent Jefferson stamp anchors this as a classic mid-century American mailing.
