Antique & Vintage Postcards

A sleek white motorboat named "La Paz" — Peace — glides across the calm silver-blue surface of Lake Chapala as the twin spires of a church pierce the sky above a landmark red-roofed Victorian building on the malecón, palm trees swaying behind a stone retaining wall lined with parked 1950s-era automobiles: this chrome-era postcard from Chapala, Jalisco captures the languid elegance of Mexico's largest lake at the height of its mid-century popularity as a resort and expatriate haven. The red-roofed building with its distinctive turrets is widely identified as the historic Arzapalo building (also called the "Casa de los Artistas" or similar), a well-known Chapala landmark. Unused and in excellent condition, this card is part of the same Ediciones Guadalajara series as its companion beach-scene card, with matching rounded corners and "Registro Artístico" designation. The pairing of these two Chapala cards from the same publisher and era makes them an attractive lot for regional Mexico collectors.
