Postcard 1960s Chrome Callejon del Beso Kiss Alley Guanajuato Mexico

Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico1963ChromeExcellent

Two women pause in quiet conversation at the base of Guanajuato's most legendary lane — the Callejón del Beso, or "Kiss Alley" — its improbably narrow passage threading between ochre, cobalt, and terracotta walls whose upper-floor balconies lean so close together that legend says lovers once exchanged kisses across the gap without leaving their respective houses. The saturated chrome color printing renders the alley's peeling plaster and potted ferns in almost cinematic warmth, a lamp sconce curling overhead like a period at the end of a sentence. Guanajuato, a silver-mining city founded in the 16th century and latterly famous as the birthplace of Diego Rivera, was already established as one of Mexico's most picturesque colonial destinations by the time this card was printed, its labyrinthine callejones a reliable subject for tourist photography. This example was distributed by Casa Valadez, the beloved restaurant and gift shop on the Jardín Unión — Guanajuato's social heart — confirming its provenance as a locally sold souvenir. "Registro Artístico" on the back indicates the image was formally registered for copyright protection.
