Antique & Vintage Postcards

Terra-cotta rooftops tumble down the hillside of Taxco, Guerrero as the iconic twin pink towers of Santa Prisca church pierce a cloudy sky above — rendered in warm, painterly gouache by Mexican artist Isidoro Zapata in a style that perfectly captures the silver-mining town's colonial romance. Sent on June 8th from the artist's hand to a Mr. G. H. Wern at 612 Monticello Court in San Antonio, Texas, the sender — known only as "Geo" — scrawled the succinct verdict: "A quaint old town." The card bears a Mexican 4-centavo red stamp and a Taxco, Guerrero postmark, tying this small artifact to a specific moment of mid-century travel between Mexico and the American Southwest. Published by Cía. Merc. "FEMA" S.A. of Mexico City, this is card No. 20 in the Taxco series.
