Antique & Vintage Postcards

A lone figure in a wide-brimmed sombrero rests beside a haystack on a dusty cobblestone lane as the twin golden towers of Taxco's Santa Prisca church soar above red-tiled rooftops into a luminous blue mountain sky — a painted vision of colonial Mexico that could hang as a watercolor. Sent on June 4th by a traveler known only as "Ges" to Mrs. A. Wern at 612 Monticello Court in San Antonio, Texas, the brief message reads: "Worth visiting — all should see this." This is the companion card to a set sent to the same San Antonio address, suggesting a single trip through Taxco by the same traveler. Published by FEMA as card No. 58 in their Taxco, México series, the card carries a red Mexican stamp with a Taxco postmark — a lovely time capsule of mid-century Mexican tourism.
