Postcard 1959 Salzburg Austria Festspielstadt Airmail to Miami FL Czech Message

Salzburg, Austria1959ChromeFair-Good

Sent by airmail from Salzburg on the 30th of July, 1959 — postmarked "Salzburg 1" in the heart of the festival season — this chrome-era color postcard of the Festspielstadt (Festival City) presents a classic panoramic view across the baroque rooftops and green copper domes of the Altstadt, with the medieval fortress of Hohensalzburg commanding its hilltop at left and the distinctive peak of the Untersberg rising beyond in the Alpine distance. The card was mailed to William at 880 N.E. 113th Street, Miami 38, Florida, USA, and bears a densely written message in what appears to be Czech or Slovak — filling both the left message panel and spilling into the address margin — suggesting the sender was a Central European visitor or emigrant attending the famous Salzburg Festival, one of the world's preeminent classical music events. The Austrian stamp — a 3 Schilling definitive in rose-carmine from the 1957–1960 "Trachtenmädchen" (costumed girl) series — is cleanly cancelled with the Salzburg 1 circular date stamp reading "30.VII.59." The image itself is published by Verlag Merkur of Salzburg, Farbaufnahme No. 50. The card shows honest postal wear consistent with airmail transit.
