RPPC Postcard 1930s Oberer Krimmler Wasserfall Austria Salzburg Waterfall

Krimml, Salzburg, Austria1935RPPCExcellent

A wall of white water thunders down through ancient granite and spruce forest in this stunning real-photo postcard of the upper Krimmler Waterfall — at 380 metres the highest waterfall in Austria and one of the tallest in Europe — captured here in full Alpine spate, the river below churning over boulders in a chaos of foam and mist. Published by the Salzburg art printing house C. Jurischek as "Echt Foto Nr. 11119," this RPPC-format card dates to the 1930s and bears the oval rubber stamp of the Krimmler Fälle visitor station at 1456 m elevation on the reverse, a souvenir cancellation that walkers collected at the summit viewpoint. The Krimml Falls in the Salzburg Hohe Tauern region were already a celebrated tourist attraction by this era, and the atmospheric composition — framing the cascade between dark conifers with the torrent filling the foreground — demonstrates the high photographic standards Jurischek brought to Austrian landscape cards.
