Postcard 1922 Waldmühle bei Perchtoldsdorf Austria Art Card Victor Jasper

Perchtoldsdorf, Lower Austria, Austria1922Pre-linenFair-Good

Soft violet and sage-green washes breathe through a dreamy Impressionist forest path in this rare artist-signed postcard by Victor Jasper, depicting the Waldmühle (forest mill) near Perchtoldsdorf — the wine-village south of Vienna beloved by Viennese artists and composers throughout the late Habsburg and early First Republic years. The composition, rendered in a delicate lithographic or collotype process, shows a winding woodland lane canopied by willowing trees, a whitewashed mill building glimpsed in the middle distance, the entire scene suffused in a lavender twilight that recalls the Viennese Secession's decorative naturalism. The card was addressed and posted to Herr Commercialrat Friedrich — a commercial councillor, a prestigious civic title in Austria — at Wien III, Thongasse 12, with an Austrian 8-Heller numeral stamp of the First Republic inflation series, postmarked circa 1922–1923. The writer, whose first name appears to begin with "L" or similar, fills the message side with flowing Kurrent script.
