Lake Constance — the Bodensee — shimmers in still grey tones as a lakeside promenade curves through lindens toward the distant Austrian town of Bregenz, its silhouette soft against the Vorarlberg Alps in a real-photo card photographed by the noted local lensman A. Kirschner, whose studio dominated Bregenz's postcard trade for decades. Sent on 15 August 1955 — Austrian National Holiday — from a holidaymaker to employees of the firm Gebr. Schütz A.G. at Loquaiplatz 12, Wien VI, the card bears Bregenz's proud festival slogan: Bregenz — Die Festspielstadt am Bodensee (Bregenz — The Festival City on Lake Constance), a reference to the Bregenzer Festspiele, the famous floating-stage opera festival. The Austrian Costume stamp and clear circular postmark make this a satisfying used example for Austria or Vorarlberg topographic collectors.
