Postcard 1970s Chrome Cristales de Chihuahua Glass Factory Juarez Mexico Unused

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico1970ChromeGood

Glowing hand-blown art glass — cobalt swans, amber elephants, etched lampshades, sinuous vases — takes center stage in this promotional Chrome postcard for Cristales de Chihuahua, the celebrated glass factory and showroom on 16th de Septiembre Avenue in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, that for decades drew El Paso day-trippers and border shoppers across the Rio Grande in search of affordable, artisan-blown Mexican glassware. The four-panel card shows the factory's modest commercial storefront (upper left), a row of four backlit colored lampshades in amber and teal (upper right), a glassblower at his furnace captured mid-breath in warm firelight (lower left), and an artful still life of the factory's signature pieces — a green elephant, a swan, a Mexican hat, a pitcher, and a serpentine bottle (lower right). The glassblowing craft depicted here descends from European traditions transplanted to northern Mexico in the twentieth century, and Cristales de Chihuahua was one of the region's best-known purveyors. Unused and clean, this advertising-style "Tarjeta Postal" carries a penciled dealer price of 150 and was likely sold as a souvenir in the shop itself, available to customers Monday through Sunday, 8 AM–8 PM.
