Antique & Vintage Postcards

Standing tall against the desert mountains of Chihuahua, a bronze Abraham Lincoln surveys Avenida Lincoln in Ciudad Juárez in this quietly remarkable chrome-era postcard — a monument that speaks volumes about the cross-border admiration between Mexico and the United States during the mid-twentieth century. Erected on the grounds of PRONAF (Programa Nacional Fronterizo), the ambitious urban renewal and tourism initiative launched under President Adolfo López Mateos in the early 1960s to beautify and modernize Mexican border cities, the statue stood as a symbol of binational goodwill at a time when Juárez and El Paso were cultivating deep economic and cultural ties. Photographer Roberto López Díaz captured the monument in crisp chrome color, with manicured roundabout plantings, mid-century street lamps, and a vintage Del Monte billboard just visible to the left — a perfect time-capsule of 1960s Juárez optimism.
