Antique & Vintage Postcards

Tucked beneath a sheer limestone escarpment in the Cilento hills south of Salerno, the whitewashed village of Giungano barely registers on most tourist itineraries — which makes this vivid hand-colored chrome panorama, with its saturated cerulean sky and deeply forested mountain flank, a genuinely uncommon find. Published by Bromofoto Autocromo of Milan and mailed in 1971 from the village itself (postmarked Giungano, postal code 84050), the card was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Polcinelli in Akron, Ohio, carrying a cheerful cursive message that opens "Hello" and winds into warm family greetings — a snapshot of the Italian diaspora staying connected across the Atlantic. The stamp is a collector's bonus: the commemorative Alitalia 25th Anniversary (1946–1971) 90 Lire issue, featuring the airline's globe-and-arrow logo in striking tricolor.
