Antique & Vintage Postcards

From a hilltop vantage point above a city at war, this vivid chromolithograph panorama of Genova sweeps across terracotta rooftops, lush green hillside gardens, and the sprawling harbor packed with vessels — a port city caught between peacetime beauty and wartime anxiety in early 1915. Written on 3 March 1915 and postmarked 4 March 1915 through the Kaiserliches Deutsches Feldpostamt des Marine-Korps, this card traveled through the German naval field post system just weeks after Italy was still formally neutral — a remarkable snapshot of a German sailor or marine stationed near Genoa sending word home. The sender, whose name appears to begin with a form of address in German Kurrent script, directed the card to a recipient named Wilhelmine at an address in what appears to be Lauritzen (possibly Lauritzen Str. 9). The purple censor/unit stamp of the Festungs-Briefstempel, Kompagnie con Marinekorps overlaps the black Feldpostamt cancellation dated 4.3.15, 4–5 N, section "b" — a dual-stamp combination of exceptional philatelic interest for WWI naval postal history collectors.
