RPPC Drei Zinnen Dolomites Italy Three Peaks c1930 Postcard Austrian Photo

Drei Zinnen / Tre Cime di Lavaredo, South Tyrol / Veneto, Italy1932RPPCExcellent

Three jagged spires of dolomite limestone pierce a dramatically clouded Alpine sky — this is the Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo), the most iconic rock formation in the Eastern Alps, captured here in a silver-gelatin real-photo postcard of exceptional tonal depth. Shot from the south-facing scree slopes with patches of snow still clinging to the talus fields below, the composition places the viewer at altitude, dwarfed by the sheer vertical faces of the Große, Kleine, and Westliche Zinnen rising over 2,999 metres. The Drei Zinnen straddle the border between South Tyrol and the Veneto — a contested zone that passed from Austria to Italy after WWI — lending this Austrian-published card a quietly charged geopolitical resonance. The "Echte Photographie" (genuine photograph) designation printed on the reverse guarantees this is a true RPPC, not a halftone, and the fine grain resolves individual boulder fields and snow-melt channels with remarkable clarity. Card number 11033 places this within a large catalogued Austrian Alpine series; the publisher, Postkarten Industrie A.G. of Vienna (Wollzeile 19), was one of the premier Viennese postcard houses of the interwar period, known for commissioning professional mountain photographers.
