Sent from Gevelsberg in the Westphalia region of Germany in the early 1930s, this charming holiday greeting card features a crisp black silhouette — the folk art of Scherenschnitt (paper-cutting) — depicting a winged cherub playfully tending to another small figure atop a cloud, with a flowing banner below reading "Frohes Fest" (Happy Holiday/Merry Christmas) in elegant Gothic blackletter script. The delicate, hand-crafted aesthetic of the original artwork by M. Schwindt is faithfully reproduced by the Geflissener Heimat-Verlag publisher. On the reverse, a 6-Pfennig green stamp bearing Paul von Hindenburg's portrait franks the card, postmarked Gevelsberg, February 1930s, addressed to Fräulein Helene in Wieselburg an der Erlauf, Niederösterreich — a young Austrian woman receiving warm seasonal wishes across the border in a moment of pre-war European normalcy.
