Postcard 1905 Drei Zinnen Dolomites Alps H. Treiber Art Unused Bavaria Printed

Dolomites, Austria-Italy border1905Pre-linenGood

At golden hour, two alpine mountaineers pause on a snow-covered ridge to gaze at the dramatic red-rock spires of the Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) in the Dolomites — one of the most iconic mountain formations in the Alps, straddling what was then the Austro-Hungarian border with Italy. The warm sunset palette of ochre, rose, and deep violet is masterfully rendered in Bavarian chromolithography, and the lower-left corner bears the monogram of artist H. Treiber M., a painter associated with early alpine postcard illustration. The back is unused and pristine, printed for inland use only — suggesting British-market distribution — with a small side note "Printed at Dye Works in Bavaria," a hallmark of quality German printing houses of the 1900–1910 era. A fine example of the mountaineering romanticism that swept European popular culture at the turn of the century.
