Postcard 1920s Linen Old Faithful Geyser 150 Ft Yellowstone Haynes

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA1925LinenExcellent

A lone figure stands dwarfed at the base of a towering white column of steam and water erupting 150 feet skyward — J.E. Haynes captured Old Faithful at its most primal in this hand-colored linen-era card, the sky behind it a deep dramatic indigo that bleeds to warm amber at the horizon, turning the geyser into something almost supernatural. Old Faithful had been erupting reliably every 44 to 120 minutes since its naming by the Washburn Expedition in 1870, and by the 1920s it had become America's most iconic natural spectacle. Haynes, as official park photographer, sold these cards directly to visitors arriving by Northern Pacific Railway, and his numbered series became the definitive visual record of the park for a generation of travelers. The card's pristine, unused condition preserves the brilliant color saturation of the original printing.
