Antique & Vintage Postcards

The Yellowstone River thunders over the Lower Falls deep in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone in this breathtaking hand-colored view from Artist Point — rust-orange and ochre canyon walls plunge hundreds of feet to the emerald river below, while dark pine forests crown the rimrock and a faint rainbow shimmers in the mist at the falls' base, exactly as thousands of painters and photographers had witnessed it since Thomas Moran made the scene famous in 1872. Haynes photographed this view repeatedly over decades, and his Artist Point cards became the definitive souvenir image of Yellowstone's canyon. The card's large format and rich color make it among the most visually impressive of the Haynes Yellowstone series. A small corner crease is visible at upper left, consistent with age.
