Antique & Vintage Postcards

A cathedral of living wood — gnarled live oaks draped in silvery Spanish moss form a dreamy, almost painterly tunnel of green and violet over a sun-dappled dirt lane in Daytona, Florida. Hand-tinted in the soft, impressionistic palette typical of E.C. Kropp's Milwaukee print shop, this card labeled "Royal Arch Oak, Daytona, Fla — 28" glows with lavender and rose light filtering through the canopy, evoking the languid romance of Florida's early resort era. Spanish moss–draped oak avenues were among the most iconic images sold to northern tourists between roughly 1905 and 1925, promising an exotic, semi-tropical escape. The E.C. Kropp Co. of Milwaukee was one of the most prolific American postcard publishers of the era, supplying regional retailers nationwide; their cards are prized by Florida and Wisconsin collector communities alike. The back is entirely unused, with Kropp's distinctive green "Post Card" lettering and catalog number 17053.
