Antique & Vintage Postcards

Palm trees frame the Belle Époque splendor of the Casino de Monte-Carlo in this glowing hand-colored card posted from Monaco to Brussels — a dispatch from one of Europe's most glamorous destinations, sent by parents (signing themselves "Papa et maman") to their son José, a student at the Institut Saint-Louis on the Boulevard Botanique in Brussels, Belgium. The warm orange-gold sky, lush manicured gardens, and the casino's ornate twin cupolas capture the seductive Mediterranean atmosphere that drew Europe's aristocracy and wealthy tourists to Monaco season after season. Published by Lévy et Neurdein Réunis of Paris, one of the premier French postcard publishers of the early twentieth century, as card number 38 in their Monte-Carlo series under the famous "LL" imprint. A period postal marking is visible on the reverse along with a faint stamp remnant. The human story — parents on holiday sending love to a schoolboy in rainy Brussels — gives this elegant tourist card a warm personal dimension.
