Antique & Vintage Postcards

Snow blankets the medieval stone tower of the Église de Château-d'Oex in the Swiss canton of Vaud, the bare winter trees framing the Romanesque belfry in a scene of Alpine stillness — a classic early-1900s Swiss village church captured with the quiet gravitas Jullien Frères brought to their finest photographic views. Château-d'Oex, nestled in the Pays-d'Enhaut highlands above Lake Geneva, was already drawing wealthy winter tourists when this card was printed, making scenic views of its ancient parish church — parts of which date to the 15th century — popular souvenirs across Europe. The image is rendered in the rich monochrome halftone typical of Jullien Frères' pre-WWI output from their Geneva atelier, with fine tonal gradation in the snow and stone. The reverse bears the classic undivided-to-early-divided "Carte Postale" layout with the note pour les pays seulement où cela est admis, pinpointing manufacture to the transitional 1902–1905 window. Never sent; both sides remain clean and bright.
