Antique & Vintage Postcards

A charming double novelty: the front face presents a colorized art-print scene titled "Welsh Women at Tea," depicting ten women in full traditional Welsh costume — tall black stovepipe hats, dark woolen shawls, and plaid flannel skirts — gathered around a lace-covered table outdoors against a low stone cottage, tea cups in hand, in a scene that perfectly encapsulates the romantic-ethnographic postcard craze of the Edwardian era. Hidden inside is a "Pocket Novelty Card" accordion fold-out strip revealing at least six miniature black-and-white photographic views of Rhyl, North Wales: Marine Lake, Rhyl Promenade from Marine Gardens, Pavilion on Rhyl Promenade, West Parade Rhyl, The Gardens Rhyl, and a view of Rhuddlan Church with horses and a busy seafront panorama. The back carries the printed postage instruction "If any Message is written, 1d Postage Inland; With Sender's Name at foot only, ½d Postage," firmly dating this to the pre-1918 British inland rate period. Publisher stamp on one inner panel reads E.T.W.D., Ltd, L. & S., with a partial retailer mark for E.M. Dennis & Sons, Scarborough. Numbered No. 679 in pen. Unused and unaddressed.
