Antique & Vintage Postcards

A crisp real-photo-style postcard (RPPC-era glossy silver-gelatin print) captures the Lindenhof — Zurich's ancient Roman-era hilltop plaza — at its most atmospheric: dappled summer light filters through a massive linden tree in full leaf, casting soft shadows across the cobblestone lane and the medieval stone balustrade that overlooks the Limmat. Narrow gabled buildings step down the Schipfe alley in the middle distance, with the tower of St. Peter's Church rising in the background. Published by Verlag Beringer & Pampaluchi, Zurich, catalog no. Z 47. This card was actually mailed: the reverse carries a handwritten German-language message (apparently from a woman named Marieluise, greeting "Frau Reiter" in Vienna) and is franked with two Swiss Helvetia stamps — a 10-rappen blue William Tell archer and a 20-rappen red EUROPA 1960 omnibus issue — cancelled with the Zürich 27 machine slogan cancel promoting the "15. Zürich Herbsttor 24. Sept." The card was addressed to Frau Reiter, Czeningg. 19/19, Wien II/27, Österreich.
