Antique & Vintage Postcards

Bathed in the gentle hand-tinted tones of an early Swiss color halftone, this Edwardian-era postcard presents the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum) in Zurich from the leafy Platzspitzpromenade — its distinctive red-turreted towers, modeled after a late-medieval Swiss castle, rising above bare winter plane trees while elegantly dressed Zurichers stroll the gravel promenade, children play, and a perambulator is pushed along the path. Published by Verlag Gebrüder Wehrli, Kilchberg, Zurich (catalog no. 2647), one of Switzerland's most prolific and collectible early postcard houses, this card exemplifies the chromolithographic postcard golden age. The back is a classic pre-divided Universal Postal Union "Carte postale" format printed in French, German, and Italian — "Nur für die Adresse" — with the UPU trilingual heading and a printed stamp box but no stamp affixed. Unused and unwritten.
