Antique & Vintage Postcards

Crisp and stately in silver gelatin monochrome, this real photo postcard (RPPC) presents the Mount Pleasant Hotel at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire at the height of its Gilded Age glory — turrets flying pennants, broad wraparound verandas inviting guests to take in the mountain air, and a wooden footbridge arching over the rocky stream in the foreground. Numbered 1726 in what appears to be a photographic series, the card captures architectural detail that the later color lithographs simply could not match: the fish-scale shingles, the delicate ironwork railings, the covered walkway connecting to an outlying wing. The Mount Pleasant opened in 1876 and operated as one of New Hampshire's premier White Mountain resorts until its demolition in 1939 — making surviving pre-demolition photographic records like this one genuinely irreplaceable. The plain divided back, labeled simply "Correspondence / Address Only" with no publisher imprint, suggests this was produced by a professional photographer selling directly to hotel guests or local retailers, likely between 1907 and 1918.
