Antique & Vintage Postcards

Soft lace curtains billow beside a leaded-glass window while a brass four-poster bed and a rocking chair invite the weary traveler to rest inside the rustic log-walled bedroom of Old Faithful Inn — one of America's most celebrated National Park lodges. J. E. Haynes, the official photographer of Yellowstone National Park based in St. Paul, captured this intimate interior view in hand-tinted color, revealing the warm honey tones of hewn log walls, a writing desk adorned with a small bouquet of wildflowers, and the unhurried elegance of early-twentieth-century park tourism. Old Faithful Inn opened in 1904 and was designed by Robert Reamer in the "parkitecture" style; postcards like this one were sold in the inn's own shop and carried home by visitors as souvenirs of a stay that felt both civilized and wildly remote. The "White Border" era printing style and the 1¢ domestic / 2¢ foreign stamp-box notation on the reverse date this card to approximately 1916–1930.
