Postcard 1920s Old Faithful Inn Yellowstone Park Haynes Photo White Border 17321

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA1923Pre-linenExcellent

Flags snap from the crow's-nest rooftop of Old Faithful Inn as the iconic log-and-stone lodge anchors the high plains horizon in this brilliant hand-tinted exterior view — the definitive portrait of what many architectural historians consider the largest log structure ever built. J. E. Haynes, stationed as Yellowstone's official photographer in St. Paul, issued this card as number 17321, and the R-64120 printer code on the reverse places it firmly in the late White-Border era, likely the early-to-mid 1920s. Designed by architect Robert Reamer and opened in 1904, Old Faithful Inn grew through several wing additions visible in this view; the high observation deck from which visitors could glimpse Old Faithful Geyser erupting is visible at the roofline. The card arrived at the height of the golden age of automobile tourism in America's national parks, when the railroads and the newly formed National Park Service were actively competing to draw visitors westward.
