Antique & Vintage Postcards

Florence's great Cathedral glows in warm terracotta, cream, and sage in this early hand-tinted color card — the ornate Gothic-Renaissance marble façade rising in geometric splendor, Giotto's campanile soaring at right, and Brunelleschi's famous dome peeking from the left edge, just as a first-time visitor might have paused breathlessly to take it all in. Sent sometime around 1904–1914 (the date "1.24.1914" or similar appears on the reverse), this card carries a densely written message in Italian cursive filling every available inch of the back — a passionate, hurried hand suggesting someone with much to say about their time in the city. Published by Knackstedt & Näther of Hamburg (a major international postcard house), the image was produced to the exacting color standards that made German-printed Italian views among the most collectible of the Edwardian era.
