Postcard 1928 Rainbow Falls Above Watkins Glen NY Linen CT AmerArt

Watkins Glen, New York, USA1928LinenGood

A cascade of white water plunges down moss-darkened gorge walls in this vivid hand-colored linen-era view of Rainbow Falls at Watkins Glen, New York — one of the Finger Lakes region's most beloved natural wonders, where Seneca Lake's glacially carved ravines draw visitors who have walked the stone-path gorge trail since the 1860s. Shot from the pedestrian bridge that spans the gorge just below the falls, the composition frames the rushing water between walls of golden autumn foliage and deep evergreens, with iron pipe railings anchored to the concrete walkway in the foreground lending an almost Art Deco sense of geometry to the wild scene. The card traveled in August 1928, sent by a writer named simply as "Cella" (closing signature) to Miss Edna in Robinson, Pennsylvania — the message, written on a diagonal in pencil, rhapsodizes about the beauty of the falls and the bridge, a charming snapshot of Depression-eve leisure travel through upstate New York's scenic gorge country.
