Postcard NYC Municipal Building New York City 1910s White Border Used Dad Jane

New York City, New York, USA1916Pre-linenFair-Good

A proud giant of Beaux-Arts civic architecture, New York City's Municipal Building looms over City Hall Park in this early white-border card — its 34-story tower crowned by the gilded statue of Civic Pride soaring 580 feet above the street. Completed in 1914, the building was the largest municipal structure in the world at the time, and the back of this card dutifully recites those staggering statistics: 116 pneumatic caissons sunk 260 feet below street level, a total cost of $13,000,000. But it's the handwritten message that steals the show — a father named Dad dashed off a wry note to his daughter Jane: "There isn't enough snow in New York to run a sled." Published by Century P.C. & Nov. Co. and bearing the distinctive CPC&N.Co. blue circular stamp, this card dates to roughly 1915–1920.
