Antique & Vintage Postcards

Five iconic glimpses of Arundel, West Sussex are arranged on this handsome real-photo-style multiview: rowers gliding across serene Swanbourne Lake, the medieval castle seen from the meadows in a classic oval vignette, the timber-framed Castle and Bridge, the busy High Street with its Norfolk Hotel signage, and the imposing North Gate of Arundel Castle — seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and one of England's oldest inhabited castles. Posted in May 1959, the card carries a lively handwritten message about attending a newly launched Sunday School and inviting the recipient to a ladies' meeting — a small window into postwar English parish life. The sender wrote to Mrs Raley at "The Row," Marlpit Hill, Edenbridge, Kent, and signed off with what appears to be a church-community greeting. Printed by Valentine & Sons of Dundee using their renowned "Silveresque" process.
