Antique & Vintage Postcards

A grand Edwardian pile half-hidden by mature cedars and sweeping hedgerows, the Pwllycrochan Hotel at Colwyn Bay was one of North Wales's most fashionable retreats — and this early-1900s hand-coloured souvenir card captures its turreted Gothic Revival silhouette in full summer glory, ladies in long skirts promenading the curved drive below. Posted on 9 August 1909 with a King Edward VII half-penny green stamp, a writer whose script is delightfully breathless fills every inch of the correspondence side with news for Miss J. R. Winch at Ravenscourt, West Dulwich — mentioning a stamp, being sorry, and someone coming to fetch them. The Colwyn Bay postmark and period stamp make this a charming Edwardian ephemera piece with genuine philatelic interest.
