Rand's Round Up Chuck Wagon Restaurant 1950s Chrome Postcard Hollywood LA Calif

Los Angeles, California, USA1955ChromeExcellent

Three proud chefs in crisp white toques preside over a spectacular Western-themed buffet at Rand's Round Up, one of mid-century Los Angeles's most beloved restaurant chains — the gleaming chuck wagon counter laden with whole pineapples, roast meats, elaborate molded salads, and tiered desserts beneath a mounted longhorn skull, the rustic stone-and-timber dining room decorated with whimsical cowboy figurines that perfectly capture the era's infatuation with frontier kitsch and abundance. Rand's Round Up operated multiple locations across the Los Angeles basin — Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Wilshire Boulevard — and was famous for its all-you-can-eat chuck wagon concept, open for dinner until 11 p.m. and after-theatre supper until 3 a.m., a gloriously Angeleno institution that fed the entertainment industry crowd and families alike through the postwar boom years. Published by Mellinger Studio of Altadena and printed by Dexter Press of West Nyack, N.Y., this unused chrome-era card is a prime piece of California restaurant ephemera.
